We decided to use Petchey’s builders for a large project in 2012 involving a rebuild of a piggery outbuilding into a one-bed annex, a look-alike store house, a reconstruction with change of orientation to our garage, construction of an en suite and an addition of a toilet into our loft.
From seeing their work in previous builds, including other similarly listed buildings, and knowing their background of carpentry and brickwork including flint work, I knew they had the skills to do the job.
On meeting them, my first impression was that I would definitely be able to get along well with them.
The work took about a year all in all, and I found them to be everything you could ever wish for in a builder; great at their work, professional, well skilled, thoughtful, open to giving me ideas and open to my ideas, well priced, humorous and kind. Any extension to deadlines were simply as a result of finding more work to do than anticipated which was totally out of their control.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with them and would use them again in an instant if I were to have another project.

Darren Petchey completed a 2 bedroom barn conversion for us at the end of August – on time and on budget.
We project managed the build ourselves but Darren made the process straightforward. He ensured that we discussed each phase in time to make decisions so that the build process was not held up, and worked well with other contractors that we employed directly.
He had a good working relationship with the building inspector and each stage was passed with no issues raised. The quotation was accurate, the quality of materials good and the workmanship excellent. Darren is particularly talented with wood but we were also pleased with the brickwork, slate roof, wall cladding and floor tiling.
Darren has previously worked for us on roof valley repairs, holiday cottage construction, internal works for a new kitchen and the base for a new agricultural barn.
